Standard 11

Effective teachers model and apply the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S**) as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students, colleagues, and the community. All teachers will meet the following standards and performance indicators.

My Interpretation: Effective teachers use and demonstrate the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S) when planning, teaching, and evaluating lessons. They use technology to engage students, enhance learning, improve their own teaching, and set a positive example for students, colleagues, and the community. All teachers are expected to meet these standards and performance indicators.

Artfiact 1: Tech Slideshow

Indicator: 11.1 (b) Pursue professional interests by creating and actively participating in local and global learning networks

Introduction to Artifact: On Thursdays after school, there is an occasional staff meeting. Two representatives of the tech department introduce new technology or programs.

Rationale: These tech talks aim to introduce new technology for teachers to use in their classrooms. They walk through how to navigate it. This one, in particular, addressed how students could use AI effectively in the classroom. I believe that AI can be a great asset; it just needs to be used correctly. Teachers also need to show students how to use it correctly and model that. As the presentation went along, I followed along, testing it out while it was being introduced. This is a great way to participate in local networks actively.

Artifact 2: Noteability Notes Module 4 Review

Indicator: 11.5 (a) Use technology to create, adapt, and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.

Introduction to Artifact: This is a module 4 review that I created for my students to practice their skills on the content that they have learned throughout module 4.

Rationale: The box at the top of the module 4 review has guided questions on each operation. These questions are based on the different rules for each operation and the misconceptions/mixing up that the students make with each operation. I thought walking through them together would help the students better understand the different rules. The guided notes themselves are created on an app called Notability. Notability has many cool features that allow students to foster independent growth and to enable them to differentiate and accommodate their needs as the students see fit. I color-code my notes and go step by step through each process. The students also have the opportunity to color-code their notes. It also allows them to change written text to typed annotation, or even has a voice-to-text button. It enables the students to frame the notes in a way that best suits them. Notability is a great technology tool that helps foster independent growth and accommodate learning differences and needs.
